SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:
Sysco spends near $3B in warehouse and delivery operating expenses every year and two thirds of that is labor. With over 15 thousand operations associates, efficient processes and effective management of productivity are crucial to the continued success of Sysco’s Supply Chain Operations. Such processes and efficient work methods are developed and maintained through a comprehensive industrial engineering program.
The Director Industrial Engineering will lead an engineering program across warehouse and delivery operations for US and international locations. The IE team will be comprised of internal Industrial Engineers and third party consultants to drive process standardization across operating companies, manage engineered labor standards update projects, develop enhanced work methods for warehouse and delivery activities and provide continuous training to field leadership and associates on preferred work methods.
The Director IE and team will work closely with field Operations other Corporate Supply Chain Departments, and Business Technology teams to bring a fact based engineering approach to cross functional projects. Such projects will include productivity evaluation of alternative business processes/equipment configurations/facility layouts, modeling of operating cost drivers for supply chain optimization and alignment of system capabilities with operations needs. The ability to integrate all aspects of warehouse and delivery operations for performance is a differentiator for Sysco relative to its traditional and non-traditional competitors.
Areas of responsibility include team development, work methods development, ELS implementation and maintenance program, vendor relationship management, contract management, resource planning and budgeting for engineering activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages all aspects of the industrial engineering program including direct reports, consulting contracts, temporary resources, system licenses and billing.
Serves as subject matter expert for Warehouse and Delivery related aspects of the program.
Responsible for recruiting, developing and retaining top talent for the Industrial Engineering team.
Functions as the corporate subject matter expert for process design, material flow work methods and manufacturing processes for the Corporation.
Work in a cross functional manner to identify and implement processes that improve overall cost, service performance and safety across warehouse and delivery operations. Collaborate with all departments in operations as well as other functions for successful implementations/results.
Provide thought leadership in process improvement and standardization for integrated warehouse and delivery operations across Sysco.
Apply industrial engineering techniques to identify improvement opportunities within existing processes as well as benchmark performance against external sources for continuous improvement.
Incorporate a holistic view to industrial engineering covering all aspects of operations across warehouse and delivery activities including policies, procedures, work methods, equipment specifications, facility layout, rack configuration and product slotting.
Identify and document productivity improvements and cost savings opportunities within the network, providing recommendations and implementation plan to management team.
Utilize problem solving abilities and fact based methods to identify, define and resolve specific problems of the operational areas. Clarify and resolve complex business issues by breaking them down into meaningful components to determine root cause, redesigning internal and external business processes as necessary.
Lead development of management reporting tools to monitor performance and identify improvement areas.
Monitor performance of companies and provide direction to attain benchmark goals set by SYSCO.
Support operations and facilities initiatives with cost modeling related activities.
Develop and document standard operating procedures and process flow charts for all departments.
Develop and conduct training programs/implementations related to projects or programs assigned to this job function.
Other duties may be assigned by department leadership.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 10 years experience with BS degree in Engineering or equivalent experience. Experience in distribution or food industry preferred.
Master’s Degree in Business, Operations Management or Supply Chain Management preferred.
Minimum 7 years of experience in industrial engineering in a large scale logistics or distribution environment.
Minimum 2 years of project management experience required.
CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Proven experience with Warehouse Management Systems, RF and Scanning Systems, Transportation Routing Systems, Labor Management Systems, Discrete Labor Standards Systems and Labor Incentive Programs
Computer literacy including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Requires technical acumen and decision making

Ability to build strong relationships, and collaborate effectively with other leaders inside and outside the organization including business segment leaders, Supply Chain Operations, Legal, Enterprise Risk Management, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources, Business Technology, and executive level leadership
Ability to persevere and achieve goals and objectives despite obstacles and resistance
The job requires travel 25% of the time.
