Job Summary:

This is a shuttle delivery driver position responsible for driving tractor trailers for the purpose of delivering various products to FreshPoint customers. This requires using excellent customer service skills, and working in accordance with state and DOT regulations, and Safety Preferred Work Methods. Overtime hours, working weekends and holidays, and starting at various late evening start times are required in order to successfully meet customers’ needs.

Essential Skills and Functions:

  • Operate vehicle in a variety of traffic and weather conditions.

  • Meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the Company.

  • Effectively plan and organize work activities independent of direct supervision.

  • Develop a good working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures.

  • Maintain ongoing inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.

  • Demonstrate strong customer relations and problem resolution skills.

Essential Duties:

  • Safely transports product from the warehouse to the shuttle point and customer(s), and ensures product is delivered within assigned route schedule and time windows. Immediately inform transportation of any deviations.

  • Maintain an adequate level of fuel in the vehicle. Report any equipment discrepancies to the manager for immediate action.

  • Unload product from trailer, by hand or using hand cart, and place in designated customer storage areas. May include transporting product down ramps, stairs, or docks, in all weather conditions.

  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures. Contact management for authorization when discrepancies on invoice and communicate all damaged goods/errors/returns.

  • Ensures all invoices and C.O.D. payments are turned in daily. Report all damages and shortages promptly.

  • Ensures all logs and trip reports are completed accurately and submitted on a timely basis according to DOT standards.

  • Develop and establish good relationships with the customers by providing excellent and courteous service.

  • Ensure all vehicle equipment maintenance reports are properly verified and completed for all pre-trip / post-trip inspections in accordance with Department of Transportation {DOT} regulations and FreshPoint policies and procedures.

  • Safely transports product picked up via backhauls and line hauls and ensures picked up is correct and is delivered on a timely basis.

  • Complete Department of Transportation {DOT} logs {electronic or manual as required}, company vehicle maintenance reports and reconcile with appropriate company representative as required.

  • Follow preferred work methods at all times, and immediately advise supervisor of any unsafe conditions.

  • Maintain, secure and safely operate all assigned equipment, including but not limited to hand cart, pallets, load bars, and personal protective equipment.

  • Maintain sanitary conditions in vehicle and assist with maintaining sanitary conditions in the warehouse and yard.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Double endorsements

  • Clean driving record {including: no single DUI in the last 3 years and no multiple DUIs within the last 10 years}

  • No chargeable accidents within last three {3} years

  • Minimum of one {1} year commercial driving experience

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, as it relates to the business and safety regulations.

  • Must have basic math skills {add, subtract, multiply, divide}

  • Must pass pre-employment testing {Drug Screen, Background Check, DOT Physical}

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities that may be required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous experience in foodservice industry

  • Two {2} years of local food or beverage delivery experience

  • Pallet breakdown and hand cart delivery experience
