POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a Produce Buyer position responsible for assigned commodities which includes pricing, procuring product, costing product, maintaining quality and performing inventory control when needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels in meeting customer demand {Service Level} while maximizing inventory turns and controlling shrink.

  • Align with and implement a “local” and “sustainable” program where applicable.

  • Insure OPCO participation and comprehension of sourcing programs.

  • Meet or exceed appropriate contract compliance.

  • Exploit effective utilization of PRDC and RDC platforms where appropriate.

  • Provide timely and effective communication with Sales force including but not limited to market conditions, product quality and availability, new items and applications.

  • Order loads and build trucks for loading.

  • Coordination of loads with the Baugh office and carriers.

  • Set weekly “Market” price.

  • Monitor “National” prices for accuracy.

  • Observes all safety rules, regulations, and sanitation policies in an effort to reduce accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.

  • Strictly adhere to company Proper Work Techniques and Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures at all times without exception.

  • Perform any additional tasks as directed by management personnel.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required with an Associate’s or Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.

  • Two or more years’ experience working in a purchasing position in a related industry is required.

  • Two or more years of produce and/or Food Service procurement experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Intermediate computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite {Word, Excel, PowerPoint}

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Ability to successfully engage and lead individual and team discussions and meetings.

  • Ability to apply all relevant policies in a consistent, timely and objective manner.

  • Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments, operating companies and Corporate in a proactive and constructive manner.

  • Ability to work in a disciplined manner and capable of following established procedures, practices and comply with local, state and federal regulations.

  • Ability to manage the pressures and stress associated with a deadline-oriented atmosphere and customer service issues. Demonstrates skill in making independent decision in support of company policies and procedures in a timely manner.

The associate is frequently required to operate office equipment such as computers, telephones, facsimile machines, 10-key calculators, etc. The associate is occasionally required to bend, stoop, reach, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position will require regular travel via a personal automobile which may result in long periods of sitting.
